Birding tours in the Barra de Santiago Mangroves and Islands

Birding in the protected mangroves of the Barra de Santiago in the western most coast al area of El Salvador makes a perfect half day outing in route to or returning from the Impossible National park or even in route to or from Antigua, Guatemala. For those interested a full day tour can also be offered which includes birding on some of the larger islands within the mangrove as well as some hidden hot spots on the bar.

When available we use local guides from the AMBAS an environmental group that has been active in the protection of the mangroves since the area was declared one of El Salvador natural protected areas. When no AMBAS guides are available we have two very good local guides.

To gain access to the protected area, permits are required and time is needed to obtain the written permission to enter the protected area. If interested in the outing you will have to give us at least two weeks’ notice and priovide us with a digital copy of your passport. Again when possibloe we use AMBAS’s boat and guide we help to give them needed income to keep up their work in the area.
